Ommen has many places of interest. The versatile nature such as forests, heaths, sand drifts, rivers Vecht and Regge bring people who love peace and nature to Ommen. This unique city located in the heart of De Vechtdal is the starting point for every trip or stay. Ommen has many sights and you can see them by foot or bike. The estates, castles, mills, churches and the Ommerschans give you a glimpse into the history of the region. Wonderful to see! It is not without reason that the municipality of Ommen was chosen as the walking municipality of the Netherlands in 2013.
The holiday home De Olde Regge is located on an old meander of the river Regge. De Regge and Vecht come together in Ommen. De Regge is just like the Overijsselse Vecht a rain river. Almost the entire course of the Regge on the territory of the municipality of Ommen has become future-proof. From a straight, tightly framed river that is held within its banks by high quays (dikes), the appearance changes into a freely meandering stream of water that can freely flow into high water retention areas on both sides of the main stream. The aim of De Regge projects is to transform the channeled river into a dynamic and resilient water system. Unwanted desiccation and flooding in the river basin must be kept to a minimum and the natural values ??and recreational value of the area must be strengthened. The work consists of removing quays (dikes or embankments), so that the water gets more space. New and original Regge meanders are also connected to the river. These measures create opportunities for nature development, agriculture and recreation. Bird spotters are delighted by De Regge. Walking, cycling, canoeing, fishing, bird watching? A trip along De Regge should not be missed.
Shifting sands, heaths, fens and lakes with red flower filled water lilies. The Besthmenerberg, which was once pushed up by the violence of the ice age, gives an unprecedented panorama over the Vechtdal. When evening falls, the mist turns juniper bushes into 'white wings'.
Het Laar Estate consists of Huize het Laer, over 50 hectares of forest, an ice cellar, deer park, coach house and peacock house. The area allows for a wonderful walk where children can visit the deer park.
